Founding Congress of Vietnam Traditional Fish Sauce Association

On October 27, 2020, in Hanoi, the Vietnam Traditional Fish Sauce Association (VATFI) held a congress to establish the association under Decision No. 609/QD-BNV dated September 3, 2020 of the Ministry of Industry and Trade. Interior.
The Vietnam Traditional Fish Sauce Association currently has 118 members across the country. In which, the number of members who are owners of establishments and enterprises producing traditional fish sauce accounts for over 90% of the total number of official members. The number of individual members are people who are knowledgeable about traditional fish sauce processing technology, have enthusiasm and determination in preserving and developing the traditional fish sauce profession - a precious asset in the unique culinary culture of Vietnam. The congress took place in 1 day in accordance with the provisions of law with the witness of leaders of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The Congress elected the Association's Executive Committee for the first term (2020-2025) consisting of 21 members and the Association's Inspection Committee consisting of 03 members representing the fish sauce production and trading units of the country.
Ms. Ho Kim Lien, President of Phu Quoc Fish Sauce Association was elected to hold the position of President of Vietnam Traditional Fish Sauce Association.
Dr. Tran Thi Dung, who has been very devoted to the traditional fish sauce profession, has many activities to preserve and develop this product, and is also the deputy chairman of the Association's Campaign Committee to be elected as Vice President. and General Secretary of the Association.
The Congress also elected three Vice Presidents representing the three regions, including Mr. Truong Quang Hien, Chairman of Phan Thiet Fish Sauce Association; Mr. Tran Van Quang, Director of Thai Binh Seafood Joint Stock Company (Thai Binh fish sauce); Mr. Tran Tran Huu Hien, Director of Bay Hong Hanh Production Trading Service Company (Hong Hanh fish sauce).
Speaking at the Congress, Ms. Ho Kim Lien said: "In a Vietnamese family meal, a cup of fish sauce cannot be missing. Whenever it comes to fish sauce, I immediately think of traditional fish sauce. Different regions, fish sauce has different flavors and colors, but has the same properties, is the inheritance of the ancestors, the pride of Vietnamese children" and "Vietnam Traditional Fish Sauce Association". being established is an important milestone in protecting the traditional fish sauce brand in the culinary village of Vietnam."
Mr. Vu Tien Loc, Chairman of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) also attended the Congress and presented the Certificate of Membership of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry to the Vietnam Traditional Fish Sauce Association.
Sharing at the Congress, Mr. Vu Tien Loc said that fish sauce is not only a seasoning for meals but also a traditional and cultural value. In fish sauce seasoning, there is not only salt and fish but also sunshine, wind, sweat and hearts of fish sauce producers, including the flow of national culture.
